A French Weekend: Chamonix and Annecy

Last Friday I awoke filled with excitement for my trip to visit Chad at his school in Collonges-sous-Salève, France. Somehow I made it through my class, ate lunch, and then I was finally free! I caught the bus to Bracknell, took a train to Gatwick, and flew to Geneva, Switzerland. Geneva is only a short drive from Collonges-sous-Salève, so Chad and his dad picked me up and took me out to ice cream before heading to the school (shoutout to Miranda and Sarah for letting me stay in their room!). I hadn't realized how much I missed good ice cream!

The next morning, we had the most AMAZING pastries (seriously, the best chocolate croissant I've ever had) and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Such a great start to a great day! After breakfast, we drove to Chamonix and looked for a nice place to hike. We decided to hike to the Mer de Glace, which led to an incredible view! Unfortunately, a large percentage of the beautiful glacier has melted, but it was still beautiful! At the top we pulled out the much-anticipated lunch we had packed: a huge loaf of fresh bread, cheese, tomatoes, and San Pellegrino.

After hiking back down, we drove to the nearby town of Annecy for dinner. This adorable town is pretty much the Venice of France! The Thiou Canal flows right between the shops and restaurants in town, making for a picturesque dinner. Swans and a gorgeous sunset only added to the view! For dinner we chose some wonderful savory crepes, and then for dessert we opted for the classic nutella crepes (another favorite of mine). On the drive back, we realized we had walked almost 14 miles that day!

The next day was more relaxed. We started the morning off with sampling foods at the market and breakfast at Birdie Coffee. I highly recommend their cappuccino and their breakfast wrap! The afternoon was spent walking through town and the forest near the school.

Having to leave on Monday was extremely difficult. As much as I love England, the food is so much better in France! After thoroughly explaining the bus route to me and writing it down in my phone notes, Chad sent me off to catch my flight back to London. Now, sitting in my dorm room at Newbold looking through pictures of this weekend is making me nostalgic and I can't wait to go back!

Not pictured: how incredibly sore my legs were.

A beautiful sunset perfectly complemented our crepe dinner in Annecy.

Birdie's cappuccino was excellent!

Collonges-sous-Salève is so beautiful! I was so sad to leave it and my super sweet boyfriend!
