Stonehenge and Salisbury in a Day

Stonehenge

A couple weeks ago my friends and I made the last minute decision to go to Stonehenge for a day. At the time it seemed like an easy enough journey, so we booked our tour the night before and went to bed excited for the adventure to come.

The next morning we started our journey by half walking, half running, to Bracknell. We were almost to the station when we realized we wouldn't make the train, so we decided to take a coffee break and wait until the next train. The three of us, already out of breath, sauntered into Patisserie Valerie and ordered our drinks. After what seemed like an eternity the barista called my drink, but alas, he had accidentally made it hot (not good after speed-walking with a winter jacket) so I asked him to remake it. Another eternity later Michaela and I finally received our lukewarm (not iced) drinks and since so much time had gone by, we had to run again so we wouldn't miss another train. Miraculously we made it to the train right as the doors opened and we were off!

Two trains and two buses later we finally arrived at Stonehenge. What a magical place! I know everyone says it's just a pile of rocks, but it's so much more than that. The history of it is amazing, and the surrounding area is beautiful. Since I’m a bit OCD and have to get the perfect shot, I took multiple photos at every angle and ended up with over a hundred pictures of Stonehenge alone. Of course, I did set the camera down for awhile to take it all in, too.

Coolest pile of rocks I've ever seen!

Salisbury Cathedral

After seeing Stonehenge we took the tour bus back into the town of Salisbury and decided to explore. The town is very charming and fun to walk around. We grabbed a quick dinner, then we to a detour on the way to the train station so we could see the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral. With the tallest church spire in the entire United Kingdom, the cathedral was absolutely stunning to see, especially all lit up in the evening.

Salisbury Cathedral

All in all Stonehenge was totally worth seeing (although it did put a very large hole in my wallet) and Salisbury is a fun little town to visit. If you’re willing to take the time and spend the money, you should definitely make Stonehenge a must-see in your UK travels!
